By Bus:
Since the centre of Munich stretches over a distance of several kilometres it is wise to use public transport to get around during your internship or practical work experience. Apart from the many tourist routes there is also a very reliable network of city buses which bring you in and out of the city. Tickets are available at service points, ticket machines and from bus drivers. All the machines explain things in German and English so even if you don’t speak German it is very easy to buy tickets anywhere.
By Subway:
The german subway is called the ‘U-Bahn’, running mostly underground, it is the backbone of the German public transport system. The U-Bahn started in 1902 and has nowadays over 170 stations and a total raillength of 144.2 kilometres. During the rush hours trains run every two minutes and during the rest of the day anywere between 7 and twelve minutes.
Germany also has a line called the ‘S-Bahn’, which is similar to the U-Bahn with the exeption that this line runs over ground and not under the ground. Tickets for both of these lines are available at numerous points in the city and prctically every station.
By Car:
A city such as Munich has numerous ways leading in and from the city. If you are going to hire a car, watch out for the chaotic traffic, it requires some experience before you can drive safely trough a city like Munich.
By train:
Of course Munich is very easy accessible by train. The names of the lines that run to and through the city are InterCityExpress-, InterCity-, EuroCity- and InterRegio Trains, for you as an international student working and living in Munich the trains make it very easy to travel in a comfortable way to any possible destination.
